Holy League - The Largest Hacktivist Alliance (so far)
Pro-Palestine and Pro-Russian Hacktivists Unite in a New Wave of DDoS Attacks Across Europe
Intro
On July 22, 2024, the pro-Palestine hacktivist groups “High Society” and “7 October Union” launched "Holy League".
Holy League is a collective of pro-Russian and pro-Palestine hacktivists, targeting Israel, Ukraine, NATO, and the European Union. The self proclaimed “largest alliance in the world” currently" consists of 54 members.
High Society & 7 October Union. We are with the leader on 7 October Union We decided to combine our teams and form one new one. Meet the "Holy League". We are now the largest alliance in the world. We have more than 70 active hacker groups that support our targets. We will attack NATO, Europe and Ukraine and israel.
DDoS attacks
So far, Holy League has claimed responsibility for DDoS attacks targeting 12 companies based in Spain.
The group claims that the attacks are in retaliation of the “wrongful” imprisonment of 3 member of the NoName057 group (part of the alliance).
However, it’s worth mentioning that the companies targeted are not related to the state, so the logic there seems to be a little faulty.
Furthermore, this seems to be a bit misleading since members of the group were performing DDoS attacks against Spain long before any of it’s members were imprisoned on the 22nd of July.
NoName057 & DDoSia project
Most of the DDoS attacks seem to originate from the group NoName057(16), a pro-Russian hacktivist group that emerged in 2022 during the Ukraine-Russia conflict. They primarily use DDoS attacks as their attack vector and target countries supporting Ukraine & NATO member states.
The group recruits volunteers through their DDoSia project on Telegram, their latest target seems to be the Czech Republic.
That being said, all that remains is to see if the new “alliance” will continue to exist or if it will disband or disappear within the next months.
This being a “hacktivist” group I would bet on the latter.
